Le Moque-TortueJEUX ♥ BISTRO ♣ GAMES

Our story

The house is older than the bistro, and it shows.

We call what happens here elevated fun: food taken seriously by people who decline to take themselves too seriously.

  1. A pharmacist’s house. Dosithé Guéguin commissions a three-storey house on Main Street: Gothic Revival, disguised as a humble family home.

  2. A monastery, for the Frères de l’instruction chrétienne, then the Rogers family home for nearly fifty years, then a French boulangerie run by a Parisian couple.

  3. Sébastien Després and Heather Wright take the keys and rebuild: a commercial kitchen, a well-stocked bar, and, later, a pâtisserie upstairs. The bistro opens on 15 September.

  4. Défi des Chefs, Grand Prize, eight months in, for a Bouilli de Cochon Cotchiné made Séb’s grandmother’s way, with heritage summer savoury from the family garden.

  5. Condé Nast Traveler comes to Shediac and writes about us.

  6. Ten lobster dishes, a house beer, a 240-bottle cellar, and more than five thousand games. The clocks still read 6:05.

The people who fill the pantry.

Most of what reaches the plate has a name and a road behind it.

The ecosystem

Le Moque-Tortue is one house in Shediac Wonderland.

A B&B in an 1896 villa, a chocolatier, a drive-in under the stars, a smokehouse, a Friday market, and three festivals, all a few minutes apart.

Two guests walk past the painted piano at the front of 402 Main Street
